Joining Daisy Parker on a trip to Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge on Saturday night, December 16, were her sisters, Margie Rogers and Esther Dawson. They enjoyed the musical drama called “The Christmas Prayer.” Daisy’s stepdaughter, Jen Hammond, sang in the Singing Christmas Tree presentation. Jen’s son Jeremy sang with the junior choir. Members of Independence United Methodist Church enjoyed open house after the worship service Sunday, December 17, at the home of their pastor, Rev. Marvin Mason, his wife Susan and daughter Tara. The home was beautifully decorated and delicious refreshments were served. Curt Gammon gave his grandma, Carolyn Gammon, a gift certificate to the Pizza Hut for her birthday Saturday, December 16, and said, “Mimi, I’m taking you out to lunch . . . it’s on me!” When she got home she received calls from both her nephews, Jeff Tyler and Greg Tyler. Of course Greg and his family had to sing The Old Gray Mare She Ain’t What She Used to Be. That song made her feel just a little bit older. Sydney Tyler, daughter of Greg and Gena Tyler of Hoschton, spent Saturday through Monday with her grandparents, Kay and Alex Tyler. She attended the Christmas program Sunday night at Tignall Baptist Church with Kay. Congratulations to Ginny and Mark Lawrence of Columbus on the birth of their daughter, Millie Mae, on Saturday, December 16. Millie Mae is the granddaughter of Frances Johnson of North Augusta and Glenn Hendrix of Hartwell and great-granddaughter of Sara Frances Henderson. Millie has a brother, Creighton, who is two. Millie Mae is named for Ginny’s grandmother, the late Mildred Hendrix and Mark’s grandmother. Visiting Linda and Leon Aycock from Friday through Sunday, December 17, were their son, Rob Aycock of Cincinnati, Ohio, and grandson, Dylan Aycock of Dublin. Joining them Friday night for supper were Daisy Parker, Patsy Elps, and Kay Seymour. Tonya, Brian and Greg Callaway, Patsy Elps and Kay Seymour joined the rest of the family for lunch Sunday. They exchanged Christmas presents that afternoon. They were sitting around discussing the cemetery when grandson Greg said, “Grandmama, by the time y’all are gone there won’t be anywhere left for us to play football in the cemetery.” Hopefully, Mildred Tyler is doing well and is home after her gallbladder surgery Friday, December 22. Louie Wolozin has been dismissed from the hospital and is doing good and glad to be home. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Conger of Elberton visited Peggy and Donald Ware on Wednesday, December 20. Danny and Tammy Price spent Friday, December 22, through Christmas Day with Mr. and Mrs. Jason Mathias and children in Ocean Springs, Mississippi. From phone calls, it seems the New Year’s resolution that most people make – whether they keep it or break it – is to lose weight. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Keener for the day on Wednesday was Steve Saylor of Westminster, Calif. (outside Los Angeles.) Steve is a business associate of Mr. Keener’s He has been in Georgia only one other time – about 15 years ago. Naturally, he was served good old vinegar-based Georgia barbecue from Randall Denard at Washington Food Market. He loved it! Later in the afternoon, He had eggnog and decided he might need to move south. Steve’s wife Judy is a detective in Orange County, Calif. Harper’s Personal Care Home will soon be moving and the community will look in their direction with sadness after they are gone. There is always a light on and it gives one comfort knowing someone is with those sweet little ladies. Carolyn, we will miss you, your staff, and the residents. Dan Fox, who is restoring the Wilkinson house on North Huliin Avenue, has now completed another project on his house. He has put a floor on the front porch and painted it gray. Looking good, Dan. I read every word – as I do every year – of Deborah Rainey’s Georgia Realty Sales page. How interesting to follow the move-in/moveout goings on in Wilkes County. I have had the pleasure of meeting some of these new people. Wilkes County does have some beautiful land and homes. Also, we are all looking forward to things happening on The Square in Washington. Way to go, Deborah! You can survive after the Christmas Tour of Homes – even if your house was on the tour. Without the help of goooood friends and neighbors, we would not have made the deadline. Thank you one and all for your help. Also, we want to thank many of you for your efforts in helping us obtain the beautiful fresh greenery we needed. It was a great day for North Wilkes with three houses in this area on tour.
