Pet of the week
Alice Green, a volunteer at the Shelter, gives the following tips on pets and cold weather. Puppies do not tolerate the cold and it’s difficult to housebreak in winter. You may opt to paper train. Provide a warm place to sleep, off the floor and away from drafts. Never leave a dog or cat alone in a car in cold weather. A car can act as a refrigerator in winter, holding in the cold and causing the animal to freeze. Bang on the hood of your car in winter. Outdoor cats sometimes sleep under the hoods of cars and can be injured. Clean up any anti-freeze spills from your car. These poisons are lethal to cats and dogs.
