Club enjoys game show program
      Members of the Washington Rotary Club enjoyed playing "Name That Tune" during their regular meeting on December 21. With music provided by piano player Teresa Bishop (right), the club divided into to teams led by President Tammy Bryngelson and Vice President-elect Joey Fievet. Paula Stevens (left) was program host for the day. The winning team was not reported.

      The Washington Little Theater Company will hold its annual general board meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Holly Court Inn at 301 South Alexander Ave. The slate of officers for the 2007 season will be voted on at that time.

College students awarded $2,000 in Reese J. Booker scholarships
      A total of $2,000 in certificates was given to 11 college students from the Reese J. Booker Scholarship fund during the annual program held Sunday, December 24, at the Mark's Tabernacle Baptist Church, Lexington Avenue, Washington. The Reese J. Retired teacher tells eighth graders interesting facts about experiences
      A recent guest of Gloria Rhodes' Career Explorations eighth grade classes was retired teacher Kay Finnell. She shared with the students the joy that being a part of the teaching profession brought her during her extensive teaching career. She followed in the steps of her mother, who taught school when teaching requirements were not what they are today in a remote school house.

VFW and Ladies Auxillary host Christmas party for vets, TASC clients; Santa visits
      The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5899 and its Ladies Auxiliary held the annual Christmas party for patients of the Georgia Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta and clients and counselors of Georgia TASC in Washington on December 15. The party was held at the post home on Andrew Drive in Washington at 11 a.m.

      I'm convinced you don't need to spend a lot of money on children. They are just as happy with a roll of Scotch tape. I took my three grandchildren to the store with me to buy tape. I left with four rolls of tape. They each had to have a roll. I didn't hear a word out of them. When we got home I found they had taped everything in my vehicle in reach of the car seats, but they were quiet and happy.

      Attendance was good at Clifford's Grove Baptist Church on Christmas Eve. It was nice for the members to have their families and friends to join them for the worship service. Attendance was down a bit on New Year's Eve but we had good services and a lot of delicious food at the covered dish meal. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Blaine of Dahlonega spent the week at their home here.       Rev. John Mark Carpenter brought an emotional message, "A Pastor's Prayer," Sunday for his last day as pastor of Sardis Baptist Church. He and his wife Betty will be getting some well-deserved rest and spending more time with their family. Several visitors were present for this special service including Rev. and Mrs. James Bland, several members of the Carpenter family, and others.

      I trust all of you had a wonderful Christmas. My family and I did. There was fun, food, and laughter at "Grandmother's" house with friends and family getting together, exchanging gifts, excitement on children's faces on Christmas morning as they eagerly opened presents, and to see what Santa had brought them. When there are little ones around it's so much fun.
