Tigers come to life after challenge, remain at top spot of Region 8-AA
      The Washington-Wilkes Tiger basketball team remains alone at the top of Region 8-AA (3-1) despite a weekend loss to Morgan County on Friday night. But Head Coach Don Keiser said his team has "come to life" after he issued a challenge for some of his players to step up and be leaders.

W-W wrestlers beat Oconee in comeback; two busy weeks ahead
      A dramatic comeback win over a formidable opponent has given the Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestling team a lift as the athletes look toward a couple of weeks of heavy competition. Wrestling against the Region 8- AAA runner-up Oconee County last week, the Tigers emerged with a 45-36 victory after having been down 18-30 in the early going.

Girls split in weekend games
      Jaleesa Hampton (above) gets a shot off as the Washington-Wilkes Lady Tigers move toward a win in recent basketball action. She scored 17 points in last Friday's 70-69 overtime region win over Morgan County. The girls weren't so fortunate against Lincoln County the next night and suffered a disappointing 58-65 loss.

'06 adult softball registration will end February 23
      The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department's 2007 adult softball program has been open for registration all this month and will continue to be so until Friday, February 23. Team registration is $260.00 for the season and signup hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays.

W-W Little League registration slated for February 5-24
      Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Little League 2007 program will begin Monday, February 5, and continue through Saturday, February 24. The program is for boys and girls baseball and also includes girls softball. Ages for the boys and girls baseball are five through 15 years old and girls softball is for ages nine through 16.
