W-WMS Corner School hears cancer patient; raising 'Pennies for Patients'
This week at W-WMS has been very exciting. On Friday, January 19, Patrell Turman, a W-WCHS student, came and spoke to our student body about "Pennies for Patients." Patrell is a cancer survivor having battled cancer his freshmen year in high school. Pennies for Patients is a new fund-raiser at the middle school to collect money for patients who are sick with Leukemia or other blood cancers. Students are being asked to bring in all their extra change and give it to their homeroom teachers. If you would like to donate to this cause, please send it by a middle school student or drop it by the middle school office. The top class in each grade will receive a pizza party. Please help us to help other people. Every cent counts and helps get us closer to a cure!
W-WMS hosted its annual Honors Night on January 18, 2007. About 335 people attended. Students were recognized for having made honor roll for either nine-week grading period for the first semester. Each student attending received a certificate of achievement with his name and A Honor Roll, AB Honor Roll, or Principal's List. Those attending participated in door prize drawings. Thank you to the following for donating door prizes: Subway, Pizza Hut, McDonalds, Fashion Express, Movie Gallery, The Garden Party, Fievet Pharmacy, Augusta Coca-Cola, and Pliant Corporation. Students not attending received their awards at a later date. A meal was provided by the cafeteria.
In other news, our school's AR Lab is currently collecting old cell phones and printer ink cartridges. Please bring in any that you are willing to donate. These donations will be turned in for money for books for our AR Lab. February 5-9 there will be a book fair in the AR Lab. So save up those allowances and get ready for a book fair! Shannon Thomasson is seeking volunteers to help with the book fair. If you are interested in donating your time, please call her at 706-678-1545.
Parents are encouraged to come to a special open house on February 5. Parents will be able to pick up their children's progress reports and talk with teachers to find out how their children are progressing. The open house will be from 3:30-6 p.m.
In sports news, the middle school wrestling team has ended with an undefeated season. Several eighth grade boys are now playing basketball or are on the W-WCHS B-team. The new B-team members are B. J. Barnett, Trevor Curry, Deon Jackson, Teverrius Jones, Matson Keiser, and Eric Scott.
