All churches of the Georgia Baptist Association are invited to take part in a mission project for HEART Ministries in Lavonia. HEART Ministries is for girls and ladies having problems with alcohol and drugs. It is a very nice and caring place, like Penfield Home is for men and boys. ..On Saturday, February 3, there will be a Ministries shower held at the Georgia Baptist Mission Center in Washington at 10 a.m. Breakfast will be served. All interested in taking part are encouraged to start now and bring all items like paper products, lotion, shampoo, toothpaste and brushes, towels, bath cloths, soap, washing powder, pencils, paper, etc. If you would like to have more information on HEART Ministries please feel free to contact our Georgia Baptist Mission Center in Washington, 706-678- 7381. ..Recently when I wrote a piece about the death of Ruby West (Mrs. Horace) Meadows who passed away in Seneca, S.C., at the age of 97, I failed to mention Jo Meadows (Mrs. Frank) Jackson of Wilkes County being a niece of Mr. Horace. It was brought to my attention in a sweet way that her father, the late Bob Meadows, was a brother of the late Ed and Horace Meadows. She is already 92 and will be 93 this year. She is among the nice people at Harpers Personal Care Home. Remember when the late Frank Jackson operated a grocery store on The Square? ..Visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy and Jerry McAvoy included Dorothy Ann Saxon, Donnie McAvoy, and one of his daughters, Tammy Gabriel and son Daniel of South Carolina; and friends, Warren and Ann Newsome; Donnie's wife Claudia was visiting their other daughter, Mandy Whatley, and children, Hope, Reese, and Megan, who recently moved to Columbus where she has accepted a job nursing at the hospital there and will be training to work with premature babies. Best wishes to Mandy in her new job and to the children in a different school and surroundings. ..Lee Nash Maxwell of Decatur spent Thursday night through Saturday with his family, Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell, Mary Jane and Tyler Scarborough. Friday he carried his mother to several doctors appointments in Athens; and for some extra tests at St. Mary's Hospital in between appointments. We got to enjoy lunch at CC's Pizza at four o'clock in the afternoon. ..Friends who take The News-Reporter from out of county need to please encourage your relatives and friends in our area to take part more in community news. If you are ashamed of who comes to see you or where you go, well, that's between you and the Lord, but it would be nice and appreciated if different families would share something off and on during the year. Don't wait until you die for me to write something nice about you, because someone in your family might object to me writing then.
