City retains employees, others; Hollander expansion discussed

The regular meeting of the Tignall City Council was held January 10.

Present were Mayor Richard Gammon, Albert Huyck, Nobie Keener, and Leon Aycock. Also present were City Attorney Michael Horgan, Clyde Davis, Walter Parker, David Jenkins of the Wilkes County Payroll Authority, Rhonda Gilbert of Gilbert and Associates, and Linda Daniel, city clerk.

The council voted to keep all current city employees, city attorney, CPA, and bank for the year 2007.

David Jenkins discussed the proposed expansion of Hollander. This will create additional jobs for the surrounding area. The city will need to relocate the existing water, sewer, and well before this can be done.

The need for sidewalks was discussed. This will be taken under consideration at a later date.

Qualifying fees were set for the upcoming election in November 2007. They are as follows: $35 for mayor and $25 for council. Qualifying time will be in September.

Increasing rates for the lunchroom rental was discussed. It was decided that the new rates will be: $100 for use plus $50 deposit (refundable if left clean) and must be vacated by 10 p.m. These new rules will be effective February 1, 2007.

Well number 1 will receive a new casing.

Cutting trees in an alley was discussed. The city is not responsible for cutting these.

Library trim on the windows will be painted and new ceiling tiles will be replaced in the library. The siren will be re-connected.
