Gathering of Edwards, Lyle families set for March 16-18
      The third annual cousins gathering of the Edwards and Lyle families will be held in Taliaferro County March 16-18. All descendants and kinfolks of 19th Century Etheldred and Julia Ann Ogletree Edwards and of James and Mary Jane Lyle are invited to attend, along with any other interested persons.

Madison Kay treated to Georgia Bulldog party
      Madison Kay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dusty Kay, celebrated her second birthday on January 18. Madison was treated to a Georgia Bulldog party at her home on January 21. She and her guests enjoyed cake, ice cream, cookies, M&M's, and goldfish. The children enjoyed playing with sidewalk chalk and other toys.

      Thomas Burriss, son of Trevin and Tracie Burriss, celebrated his eighth birthday on January 27. Thomas enjoyed a celebration with his second grade classmates at Washington- Wilkes Primary School on Friday, January 26. Ice cream and cookie cake were served and treat bags with candy were given to all his classmates.

FBC Silver Streaks travel to Abbeville, Yoder's on Feb. 3
      The Silver Streaks of First Baptist Church enjoyed a trip to Abbeville, S.C. on Saturday, February 3. The group arrived in Abbeville in time for lunch at Yoder's. After lunch they browsed around town enjoying the shops before gathering at the Opera House for the afternoon production, "Honky Tonk Angels".

Spaces available for community CPR class Feb. 10
      A few spaces remain available for the community-wide CPR class hosted by the Wilkes County Emergency Medical Service on Saturday, February 10, in the Wills Memorial Hospital library. The class will be taught by Teresa Stockwell, paramedic with the Wilkes County EMS, and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a break for lunch that may be purchased in the hospital café.

Curt Gammon celebrates seventh birthday January 23
      Curt Gammon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Gammon, was seven years old on January 23 and celebrated on several occasions. Curt and his parents took friends, Colton Bearse, Bailey Brock, Hunter Brock, Walker Moore, Thomas Morgan, Wes Tanner, and Garrett Tawzer, bowling at Masters Lane in Augusta on January 20. The boys enjoyed bowling, popcorn, drinks and birthday cake.

Plans finalized for WHS Class of 1952 Scholarship presentation
      Six members of the Washington High School Class of l952 met at the Mary Willis Library on January 27 to finalize plans for the presentation of a $500 scholarship to a 2007 graduating senior of Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School. This will be the first scholarship awarded from the Class of l952 Scholarship Fund established at the fiftieth reunion of the class on June 8, 2002.
