Wrestlers look ahead to individual, state tournaments
      The Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestling team finished its regular 2007 season with four strong wins and closed out the year with a dual meet record of 19-15. The week's action began last Tuesday, January 31, when the Tigers hosted Athens Christian School and Lakeside-Evans. Results are as follows.

Bowman is Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the 3rd time
      Continuing his domination on the basketball court, Augusta State University's Tyrekus Bowman last week was the first Jaguar ever to be named Player of the Week for the Peach Belt Conference three times in one season. He is also the only player in the conference to earn the distinction this year.

Registration for Little League begins Feb. 5 at Ashley Park
      Registration for the Washington- Wilkes Little League 2007 program began on Monday, February 5, and will continue through Saturday, February 24. The program is for boys and girls baseball and also includes girls softball. Ages for the boys and girls baseball are five through 15 years old and girls softball is for ages nine through 16.

Spring soccer at W-WPRD registration ends March 2
      The spring soccer program for the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department got underway this week with registration begin- ning February 5. The final deadline for registration is March 2.The fee for the program is $30 for the first child and $25 for the second child. No late sign-ups will be accepted.

Cheerleading camp set for February 16
      The fifth annual Washington- Wilkes Parks and Recreation Cheerleading Camp will be held Friday, February 16. The camp is sponsored by McDonald's of Washington and is a one-day camp. This year's cheerleader competition will be held on Saturday, March 26, at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Gym.

Tigers have a shot at first place
      Khiry Tutt gets up over Greene County for two points but it wasn't enough to overcome those other Tigers as W-W lost last Friday night 58-71. Then, on Tuesday night, the Tigers needed a win to secure second place in the region and a home berth in the post season. Morgan County had beaten the Tigers earlier in the season but couldn't do it again as W-W pulled out a 75-72 win.

Wrestlers compete at Southern Brawl
      These five young Washington-Wilkes athletes competed in the Suwannee Southern Brawl Wrestling Tournament February 3 in Suwannee. Devven Ferris (right) received a third place medal and David Martin (left) received a fourth place medal. Left to right the students are David Martin, Ethan Ramos, Will Lawson, Jack Martin and Devven Ferris. Their coaches are Juan Ramos and Bernie Ferris.

Adult softball registration underway, will end Feb. 23
      The Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Department's 2007 adult softball program has been open for registration all this month and will continue to be so until Friday, February 23. Team registration is $260.00 for the season and signup hours are 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays.
