Elizabeth Sutton Harper weds Jeffrey Wayne Brannen Jan. 6
Elizabeth Sutton Harper and Jeffrey Wayne Brannen of Jackson, Miss., exchanged wedding vows in an impressive ceremony Saturday, January 6, at 12 o'clock noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Macon. Rev. Dr. Derek Thomas of Jackson, Miss., officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Earl Harper of Macon.
The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Wayne Brannen of Horsehoe Bend, Ark.
The doors to the church held allwhite floral wreaths. Pillar candles and all-white arrangements adorned the altar.
A program of music was presented by Sandra Smith, organist, and Vadim and Marina Volynet, bass and violin, respectively. Vocalist was Mrs. Simon Chang of Boston, Mass., sister of the bridegroom.
Shaun Michael Brannen of Memphis, Tenn., served as his brother's best man. Ushers were the bride's brothers, Benjamin Paul Harper of Lookout Mountain, Patrick Bennett Harper of Atlanta, and Thomas Nathan Harper of Macon.
Kathryn Leigh Polston of Athens served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Benjamin Paul Harper of Lookout Mountain, Jensen Branscombe of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Mrs. Matthew Siple of Athens and Lauren Royal of Acapulco, Mex.
Each wore a strapless J Crew tealength silk dress in winter blue fashioned with chocolate brown velvet ribbon at the empire waist and carried a bouquet of white mountain lilies, white roses, miniature calla lilies, thistle and fern curls adorned with monogrammed embroidered buttons and various greenery.
Flower girls, Henrietta Margaret Wright and Amelia Jean Wright of Atlanta, wore long full-skirted ivory dresses with wide chocolate brown satin sashes and carried moss covered baskets of rose petals.
John Widener Norris of Athens was the ring bearer.
Given in marriage by her father, the bride was radiant in her strapless ivory silk designer full gown fashioned with an eight inch French lace bodice and chapel-length train. Thirty-six silk covered buttons adorned the back. The gown was also worn by her sister-in-law and bridesmaid, Mrs. Benjamin Paul Harper.
She carried a bouquet of stephanotis, white mountain lilies, white roses, miniature white calla lilies, fern curls and greenery.
Reception
Following the ceremony the bride's parents entertained at a reception at their home both indoors and outside on the grounds using multiple tents.
The wedding reception-brunch included favorites as tomato pie, marinated asparagus, grilled beef tenderloin on small croissants and shrimp and grits polenta prepared on site over an open flame.
The five-tiered wedding cake included two layers of strawberry cake and Italian cream cake with the traditional pound cake. The fondant icing had a different design on each tier and included the initials of the married couple.
The bridegroom's three-tiered chocolate pound cake was adorned with fresh fruit separating the tiers.
Both cakes were displayed in the dining room of the home along with mounds of chocolate-covered strawberries also sporting the couple's initials.
A trio of string musicians including violins and bass provided musical entertainment of the back patio while Tom Ridgeway of Macon was the pianist in the music room.
The traditional first dance was on the back circular patio to the strings' music.
A table for favors held a large crystal bowl filled with Skittles, a favorite of the bride. Also on the table were small bags of chocolate chip cookies adorned with ribbons and "Thanks Y'all" stickers.
For traveling the bride wore winter white slacks and a cashmere camisole with a pink and ivory herringbone wool coat with a matching pocketbook.
The couple is making their home in Jackson, Miss., where they are studying to complete graduate school at Reformed Theological Seminary.
Among the guests attending from Washington-Wilkes were the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Paul Harper; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Butts; and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Trey Smith and Harper.
Rehearsal Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Kent Baldschun, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Brent Pyles, Judge and Mrs. C. Ashley Royal, Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Crosby, Mr. and Mrs. David Lee, Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Bray and Dr. and Mrs. Bill Barnes of Macon were hosts at a rehearsal dinner at the home of the bride's parents honoring the prospective couple.
The evening affair took placed under the clear ceiling ten enhanced with an iron chandelier.
Round tables were adorned with full-length white cloths and chocolate brown overlays. Each table featured a moss-covered pot with multicolored fresh flowers, fern curls and peacock feathers.
Guests enjoyed dinner that included beef tenderloin prepared and served by the hosts.
Bridesmaids Luncheon
Elizabeth Harper was honored by her aunts, Mrs. Gary Butts of Tignall, Mrs. Rick Bennett of Atlanta, and Mrs. Billy Bennett of Albany at a bridesmaids luncheon at the City Club in Macon.
The wedding theme of browns and blues was continued in the decorating scheme and white roses adorned each table.
Homemade cookies, made by Jane Baldschun Harper in the shape of wedding cakes and featuring the bride's initials, were given as favors.
Twenty-seven guests attended and included the ladies in the wedding party, family and out-of-town guests.
