Wrestlers look ahead to individual, state tournaments
Senior Tiger wrestlers honored at their last home meet were (l-r) Trey McCants, Dywane Hampton, D.J. Willis, Charlton Ware, and Jesse Crago. The Washington-Wilkes Tiger wrestling team finished its regular 2007 season with four strong wins and closed out the year with a dual meet record of 19-15.
The week's action began last Tuesday, January 31, when the Tigers hosted Athens Christian School and Lakeside-Evans. Results are as follows.

D.J. Willis secured a technical fall (24-9) over his Towns County opponent last Friday. On Friday, February 2, W-W hosted Towns County and Winder- Barrow at the high school in the final regular season match for 2007.
Following the first of the three events of the meet, senior Tiger wrestlers were honored in a brief ceremony which included family members. Those wrestlers honored included Dywane Hampton, DJ Willis, Trey McCants, Charlton Ware, and Jesse Crago.

On Saturday, February 3, the team participated in the Patriot Classic at Oglethorpe County. Illness prevented several of the wrestlers from competing including junior Tyson Gilland who was a heavy favorite to win his weight class.
In the tournament, John Lovvorn finished in second place at 119 pounds and DJ Willis finished fourth at 145 pounds.
The area individual tournament will begin this Friday, February 9. From there, qualifying wrestlers will continue on to the state individual tournament on February 16.
