BRR! I have never seen so much cold weather. It seems like it does not even warm up through the day. Do you reckon it is that I am getting older and I just think it's colder? Just sitting in my chair I don't feel any older, but when I start trying to do something I can feel it. This old woman just ain't what she used to be. .. I hope all of you had a nice Valentine's Day. I did. It was so cold and the wind was blowing so hard, I bundled up and went into Washington and picked up pizza and salad for our supper. Then the next day, J.W. and I went to Poss Umm Cafe for a nice Valentine dinner of turkey, dressing, giblet gravy, cranberry sauce, collard greens and tea. ..The Lunch and Learn Club will meet at the City Hall at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 28. All ladies are invited to attend. .. He gave very interesting information about the work of the Gideons and the stories they tell of being involved in getting the Bibles out to all the world. Rebekah Echols was pianist for the service and Pam Hall led in the singing. Ethan Armour held children's church and Adrianne Echols kept the nursery. During Sunday School the congregation sang "Happy Birthday" to Billy Amason and Jack Armour who both had celebrated a birthday on February 15. Next Sunday there will be an election for the new pastor. All members of the church are urged to attend and make your vote count. Prayer meeting will be held Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Echols Home. ..The youth and young at heart of Sardis Baptist Church went to the Augusta Lynx game of ice hockey Friday night. Those going were Danny Gunter and Maddie, Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Adriane Echols and Anthony, Boyce Hall and Lindley, Keaton Wilson, Dylan Armour, Rebekah Echols, Denise Armour and Jackson. ..Avery Hall spent Friday night and Saturday with Wes Tanner in Washington. Wes was celebrating a birthday and he, along with his family and Avery, also went to see the Augusta Lynx ice hockey game Friday night. ..February birthdays include Wilda Boatwright, 3; Montine Edwards, 4; Brenda Willis, Alyssa Stewart, and Jim Wheatley, 5; Della Maxwell Holstein, Stacy Jones, 7; Meghan Arnold, 9; Betty Carpenter, Loretta Cates, 14; Samantha Armour, Jack Armour, Billy Amason, Kelly Armour, 15; Parker Echols, Elaine Mathews, 17; Tim Stewart, Lamar Berry and Donnie Berry, 18; Marian Poss, 19; and Rosie Maxwell, 22. ..A birthday celebration and dinner for Donnie Berry was given Saturday evening at the home of Tom and Sandra Parker. Joining Donnie, Tom and Sandra, were Kris, Abbi and Jessi; a friend, Ben; Betty Berry, Lee and Shelley Parker and Bradley, Sybil Vaughn, and Jerry and Diane Compton. ..Donnie Berry was honored with a birthday dinner Sunday, February 18, at his mama's (Betty Berry) house along with Betty, Kris, Lee and Shelley Parker and Bradley. ..Susan Amason came down from Flowery Branch Friday and spent the night with her brother Billy. She treated him out to dinner for his birthday at the Red Lobster in Athens. ..Debra Sherrer visited Billy and Doris Walker Sunday afternoon. ..Marshall and Mablean Sherrer, Brent and Deana Sherrer, and John Howard and family enjoyed Sunday dinner with Mary Will Hawes.
..Our heartfelt sympathy to Skip and Kathryn Padgett in the death of her mother, Mrs. Frances Van Ronk of Ohio. She was a sweet lady who was known and loved by many people of the community as she lived here with the Padgetts for a while. She will be greatly missed. ..Malvin and Kay Vaughn of Marietta spent the weekend with Annie Blanche Vaughn. ..Fred Weidner spent from Friday through Sunday with Clyde and Sandy Whittington. Avery Hall also visited and spent the day with Clyde Monday. .. Ann Williamson and Sudie Kennedy went to Thomson and enjoyed browsing around and enjoyed eating at Long John Silver's. ..Boyce and Pam Hall and Avery, and Martha Hall visited Helen Price in Athens Sunday afternoon. ..Bonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup and Margaret Peterman of Lexington for a trip to Elberton to play bingo at Wendy's Tuesday. .. Angela Armour, Cody and Hunter, Scott and Sissy Smith and J.R., and Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank spent the day Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols. .. James and Sharon Smith of Stephens joined J.W. and Bonnie Boatwright for breakfast at Poss Umm Cafe Tuesday morning. ..Lamar Berry celebrated his birthday Sunday. He cooked a birthday dinner for the family while all the others were at church. ..Bonnie Boatwright enjoyed a visit with Kay Berry Saturday afternoon. Sunday afternoon she visited Lamar and Kay Berry and Trey and Brooke Berry, Kaitlyn and Bryson, and enjoyed birthday cake with them. ..Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava enjoyed Sunday dinner with Tim and Gail Stewart and Alyssa. ..Members of Beaverdam Baptist Church enjoyed hearing a presentation of the work of Gideons as presented by Ronnie Williams of Madison County Sunday morning. The Lord's Supper was observed during the service and was led by the pastor, Rev. John McMillian.
