Qualifying to begin next Tuesday for District 10 congressional seat
Qualifying for the Tenth Congressional district special election to fill the unexpired term of the late Congressman Charlie Norwood has been set for next week, beginning Tuesday, April 24, through Thursday, April 26.
Secretary of State Karen Handel announced last Friday that qualifying on next Tuesday and Wednesday will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. On Thursday, qualifying will run from 9 a.m. until noon.
Qualifying will be held in the Elections Division of the Office of Secretary of State, 1104 West Tower, 2 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, SE in Atlanta.
The election, which will fill Norwood's unexpired term, will be held June 19. A run-off election, if necessary, will be held July 17. The qualifying fee is $4,950.
The election will be held in the following counties: Wilkes, Banks, Clarke, Columbia, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Habersham, Hart, Jackson, Lincoln, Madison, McDuffie, Morgan, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putnam, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, and part of Richmond.
All citizens residing in the Congressional district who wish to vote in the special election can register to vote through May 21. Voter registration forms can be obtained at the Wilkes County courthouse. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19.
