Jack Durham baptized at First United Methodist
Jack Harvey Durham, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Durham of Washington, was baptized on Sunday, April 15, at the First United Methodist Church. The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Gale Seibert, pastor, and Rev. Wayne Johnson of Cave City, Ark., great-uncle.
The choir and congregation sang the hymn, "Wash, O God, Our Sons and Daughters," before Jack was administered the Holy Sacrament of Baptism along with being blessed with the symbols of water, oil and salt. A shell and water drop motif christening banner that was made by the Cornelia Johnson Circle many years ago hung in the church during the worship service.
Jack wore a one-piece, long-leg bubble christening outfit of white cotton with a Peter Pan collar and a front panel detailed with vertical pin tucks and hand-embroidered French knots that was given to him by his parents. A special Christening Bible engraved with his name was presented to Jack by his great-uncle and aunt, Rev. and Mrs. Wayne Johnson, and held for him during the ceremony by his mother. His parents also presented Jack a special white christening blanket embellished with a satin cross for the occasion.
After the Sunday morning service, Jack's parents entertained family and friends at a dinner held in the fellowship hall of the First United Methodist Church. For the special event, Mrs. Ricky Lindsey arranged a centerpiece for the buffet table of white calla lilies, dendrobium orchids, purple tulips, heather, hypericum berries, ivy and curly willow in a silver urn. Guest tables held white gerber daisies, heather and hosta leaves in cobalt blue vases surrounded by baby blocks and blue glass pebbles. White balloons and blue streamers from the Lindseys marked the high chair for the guest of honor.
Guests signed a Blessings on Your Christening keepsake card for Jack as they entered and enjoyed a meal of honey baked ham, macaroni and cheese casserole, potato salad, pasta salad, green beans, fruit salad and rolls. A Red Velvet cake for dessert was a highlight of the dinner.
Those attending the dinner with Jack and his parents were his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Harvey of Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Durham of Greensboro; ministers Rev.
