Callaway (third from left) enjoys her children (l-r) Laura Callaway Hart, Katherine Callaway Patterson and E. Turner Callaway, at her birthday celebration. In celebration of Mrs. Robert E. Callaway's 80th birthday, which was April 25, her children hosted a luncheon on Sunday, April 29, at the Fitzpatrick Hotel.

Completing a bountiful buffet lunch, a chocolate sheet cake, Mrs. Callaway's favorite, was served for dessert. It was beautifully decorated, featuring an 80th birthday message and yellow roses, her favorite flower.

Invited to join the honoree for lunch were her family and a few close friends, including Dr. and Mrs. Steven G. Patterson and Anne Griffin Patterson of Orangeburg, S.C., and Cally Patterson of Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. Edward G. Hart of Columbia, S.C., Russell and Katherine Hart, both of Clemson University, Clemson, S.C.; Mr. and Mrs. E. Turner Callaway of Rayle; James E. Blackwell of Athens; Mr. and Mrs. David Blackwell, Andrew and Brittaney Blackwell, and Chuck, Alyssa and Teagan Best of Jefferson; Captain and Mrs. Matthew Blackwell of Fort Campbell, Ky.; Mrs. Mary Wright Blue, William Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. James A. Reynolds, Mrs. Robert Leavell, Mrs. Frank Story and Mrs. Jim Garner of Washington; Mrs. Eugene Callaway and Mrs. David Blackburn of Rayle.

In the afternoon, Captain and Mrs. Matthew Blackwell, who were unable to be present because of his military duties at Fort Campbell, Ky., sent an instant message to Mrs. Callaway on her computer. Using their web cams, they were able to see each other as they conversed. Each member of the family was given an opportunity to exchange instant messages with the Blackwells and to see and be seen by them by way of the web cams. This modern technology, so amazing to the octogenarian, enhanced the enjoyment of the family gathering.
