Music award winners at W-WPS included (l-r) Barrot Cole, Makayla Wray, Thomas Burriss, Huzaifah Aamir, Cody McLeroy, Katherine Dukes, and Meredity Gunter. Each year, awards are presented to children who have worked hard and set high goals in the music program at the Washington-Wilkes Primary School (W-WPS.)

Music Teacher Ann Tiller stresses individual excellence. Children are given the opportunity to challenge themselves to do their very best. At the end of each year children who have excelled are recognized for their effort.

The Washington-Wilkes Primary Performers have sung for the school and one civic club for a total of four programs this year. On May 16 and 17, the Performers from the second and third grades received certificates of participation at the awards program for their grade.

Another music award given each year is one for the highest scores on the Music Ace computer program. These certificates are given to all students who accumulate more than 10,000 points on the computer music program during the year. Music Ace has been used at the primary school for many years. It is now officially a part of the music curriculum for the Macmillan/McGraw- Hill publishing company. Children who made the high scores were awarded a certificate for their achievement.

First grader Barrot Cole received the certificate and a Yamaha recorder.

First place winner for the second grade was Thomas Burriss who received a World Drumming Rhythm Set. Makayla Wray was second place winner and received a Yamaha recorder.

Four students in the third grade with scores well over 20,000 points received the following reward items: first place winner Katherine Dukes received a Casio Keyboard; second place winner Cody McLeroy, a Hohner Ukulele; and third and fourth place winners Huzaifah Aamir and Meredith Gunter received a Disney Recorder and Books set.
