Washington bicyclist killed in late night Whitehall collision
A Washington resident was killed last Wednesday night in a collision with this pickup truck on Whitehall Street at Hospital Drive. A Washington man was killed last Wednesday night when he rode his bicycle into the side of a pickup truck driving down Whitehall Street.
James Henry Wallace Jr., 26, of Max Drive in Washington, was riding a bicycle down Hospital Drive just before 11 p.m. June 6. As he approached the intersection, he swung around a car stopped at the stop sign, then ran the stop sign and tried to ride across Whitehall Street, Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Brent Marxsen said.
Wallace, whom Marxsen said was apparently under the influence of alcohol, slammed into the side and windshield of a Ford pickup driven by Deiante Walton of Washington. Wallace was thrown some 33 feet through the air and died at the scene.
Walton will not be charged, Marxsen said. Blood samples from Wallace were sent to the Georgia Crime Lab to confirmblood alcohol levels.
