Trey Berry, Charlton Ware, Michael Land, Blake Ware, Lindley Hall, and Gracen Ware went to Daytona Beach, Fla., for a summer fling last week. They did many fun and interesting things, one of which was seeing the launching of the space shuttle. .I never thought I would be called a redneck. But when I saw Alvin and June Chafin in Thomson last week Alvin told me, "You are a redneck lady." I really am a redneck due to radiation. It was good to see Alvin and June. Radiation has not been all pleasant, but so far J.W. and I have done far better than we ever expected. The doctor and nurses do everything possible to make you comfortable during your time of treatments. I am really glad to be close to the finish line and by the time you read this on Thursday I will have finished all my treatments. Praise the Lord. I am not out of the woods yet with more tests coming up, but we are thinking the results will be good. Please continue to remember us in prayer. .Vacation Bible School at Sardis Baptist Church went well last week with approximately 75 children and adult workers participating. The thunder clouds which rolled through several evenings did not dampen the enthusiasm of anyone. After a great week of hard work, learning, and fun, the children and leaders and their guests were treated to a hotdog supper Friday evening. Afterwards a wonderful program was held in the sanctuary where each class performed and then the children received certificates.The parents were then invited to go to the child's room where their accomplishments were displayed and to pick up their crafts to take home. .Sardis Baptist Church enjoyed having Rev. Skip Padgett as guest speaker Sunday morning. Pam Hall led in the singing of beautiful hymns with Rebekah Echols as pianist. Cody Armour held children's church in the annex of the church. Lindley Hall was in charge of the nursery. Prayer meeting is held every Wednesday evening at the Echols home. .Joyce Bowen, who is still in Doctors Hospital in Augusta, continues to improve slowly and her recovery will take some time. Our prayers are with her and her family.
.The Bowen family has our deepest heartfelt sympathy in the unexpected death of James' brother in Cleveland last week. Our prayers are for them as they go through his death and the serious illness of Joyce. . Karen Bowen's mother, Nell Shedd, of the Tyrone community, is recuperating nicely at her home after surgery Monday, June 11, in the McDuffie County Hospital. Betsy Wynne is reported to be doing well. Our prayers are with them and Betty. .The Lunch and Learn Club will meet at the City Hall at 10 a.m. June 27. All ladies are invited to attend. . J.W. Boatwright visited Ruby Chafin,Ruby Arnold, and Jack and Rubye Armour last week. Everyone is glad to see Ruby Chafin back in her store as she was missed very much. .George and Ann Wideman visited Leeman and Mary Stewart in Washington and Laura Hester at Wilkes Health Care last week. Ann, David, James, Mathew, and Elizabeth Lamar visited Leeman and Mary Stewart. Visiting the Widemans were Gene Winfrey and Buster Winfrey.
