Market Days returns to Washington as big street festival set for October

Market Days are returning to Washington, bigger and better than ever.

The Washington Farmers Market, in collaboration with Washington First LLC, has announced the Market Days Street Festival 2007, slated for October 27 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. in downtown Washington.

The Market Days Street Festival 2007 is an expanded version of summer market days on The Square where vendors would set up tents and sell their wares.

"Market days have been vital to Washington entrepreneurs, farms, and retailers since Washington's incorporation in 1780. People used to migrate to The Square by the thousands throughout Washington's history to conduct business," said Bradley Barber, co- event planner. "Market days was pivotal in furthering business relationships, generating income and advertising products."

"Essentially, our Market Days Street Festival is just a bigger, broader, and more dynamic festival than what has been experienced in the past few years with Market Days on The Square," said Katherine Barber, co-event planner. "Vendors will be more diverse and the call for vendors will extend to larger cities including Atlanta, Athens, Augusta and Aiken. We would like to see a broad spectrum of vendors represented at the festival including restaurants, wineries, hospitality, and sports-related companies as well as clothing, toy, book, pet, home décor, art and music-based companies."

Special events will be planned throughout the day including live local music, children's activities and a variety of games, special events and contests. "The event will culminate with an 'Off the Square' dance where people can dance in the streets while listening to great live music."

"It's a great opportunity for festival attendees to shop, experience and learn about a variety of businesses in our region in a fun and energetic atmosphere," Katherine said.
