Craycraft wins Invitational for 4th time to join Jones as winningest players ever

Billy Craycraft proved once again that he's the man to beat in the annual Amos Martin Invitational Golf Classic. After setting the pace with the low score of the day (68) on Saturday, he held on for another low score of the day (70) on Sunday to win the tournment for the second straight year and the fourth time in his golfingcareer. Craycraft's 138 for the 2007 event was just one stroke off the tournament record, a mark he himself set almost two decades ago in 1988.

The year after that, 1989, was when Bobby Jones won the tournament for a previously unprecedented fourth time. He held that distinction until last weekend when Craycraft equalled the feat, interestingly in almost the same number of years - 23 for Craycraft, 22 for Jones.

The consecutive win sets Craycraft up to be the only back-to-backto back winner of the tournament if he can repeat again in 2008. There have now been seven back-to-back winners but no player has ever won the tournament three times in a row.

Second place honors again went to Jim Baston who was again just two stokes back at 140 for the two days. He and Craycraft were both four strokes better than they were in 2006. Chad Blackmon shot 144 to take third place in the tournament.

Almost 100 golfers participated in the tournament this year representing an increase of more than 20 over last year. Everything went smoothly and except for a very short rain delay on Sunday morning, the weather cooperated nicely.

Tournament chairman Casey Jackson said he was pleased with the turnout and reported that everyone seemed to have an enjoyable weekend. He expressed his thanks to the following for their help with the tournament:
