Samantha Armour, bride-elect of Will Callaway, was honored with a bridesmaids luncheon on Saturday, September 8, at the Rayle City Hall. Hostesses for the festive occasion were Penny Callaway, Sheila Callaway, Cissy Smith, Lou Heard and Denise Armour of Washington- Wilkes and Patsy McCommons of Raleigh, N.C.

In honor of the occasion Miss Armour wore a pink halter dress with sequin designs. She was presented a corsage of orange mini-carnations and hot pink waxflowertied with orange sheer ribbon to complement the pink and orange color scheme she has chosen for her wedding colors.

As guests arrived, they were welcomed and invited to register at a round table covered in white and decorated with a small watering tin of green and pink hydrangeas, white roses and pink and green polka dotted ribbon. Also on the table was a picture frame that each bridesmaid signed. This was later given to the bride-elect by her aunts, Cissy Smith and Lou Heard, with a picture of her with her bridesmaids.

Ferns were placed at focal points about the room and the piano featured a large arrangement of Gerber daisies in shades of pink and orange.

Tables for seating were in a Ushape and were overlaid in cutwork white cloths. The bride-elect and her attendants were seated at the head table of this design and the bride-elect's chair was marked with a pink satin bow. A vase of Gerber daisies in orange and pink decorated the table. Down the other extensions of the table design were pedestal glass dishes holding Yankee candles in varied shades of pink and orange.

The food table, also covered in white, featured two large glass votive holders with Burgundy candles and various shades of floating pink flower petals.

Guests enjoyed a luncheon of chicken salad with croissants, pasta salad and a variety of fresh fruits layered in a crystal pedestal bowl. Tea with lemon and lime slices was also enjoyed.

Clustered pink tulle bows accented the corners of the cake table also adorned to one side with a spring arrangement. A strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting and decorated with fresh strawberries was served for dessert. After the meal each bridesmaid took a turn pulling a ribbon from another strawberry cake with cream cheese icing and decorated with Alstroemeria lilies. At the end of each ribbon was a sterling silver charm in keeping with a "ribbon pulling" tradition dating back to the time of Queen Victoria. Each charm would have a special meaning, a bit of advice or would foretell the future in luck, romance and fortune.

Both cakes were made by Karen Callaway of Rayle.

Miss Armour presented her bridal attendants with pearl necklaces and earrings to be worn with their wedding attire.

Joining the bride-elect were Angela Armour, Cody Armour, Brittany Armour, Bettina Armour, Abby Smith, Karla Dawson, Crystal Purdy, Mattie Heard, Alaina Callaway, Linda Echols, Rubye Armour, Catherine Callaway, Betty Blackmon, Beth Armour, Penny Callaway, Sheila Callaway, Lou Heard, Cissy Smith and Denise Armour.
