Carl West Moore

Graveside services for Carl West Moore, 79, of Washington, will be held Thursday, October 3, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the Phillips Mill Baptist Church Cemetery, Washington, with Rev. Robert Rayner officiating. He died Sunday, September 30, at Wills Memorial Hospital, Washington.

Mr. Moore was a native of Taliaferro County and was the son of the late Mark Allen Moore and Essie Sue West Moore. Her had retired as superintendent of buildings and grounds for the Wilkes County Board of Education after 34 years of service. He also worked as a cattle artificialinsemination technician for more than 40 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Washington and served in the U.S. Army and Merchant Marines. He was awarded the Wilkes County Cattlemen's Association Purebred Producer Award in 1991 and was inducted into the Wilkes County Cattlemen's Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

Survivors include his wife, Dot Armour Moore of Washington; a son and daughter-in-law, Shane and Amy Moore, Washington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carlene and Ken Johnson, Snellville, and Susan and David Shirah, Griffin; two sisters, Mary Jean Grant, Thomson, and Celeste W. Vidrine, Waynesville; five brothers, Guy Yancey Moore, Brunswick, Thomas Harold Moore, Eatonton, Emory Jordan "Pete" Moore, Washington, William Mark "Bill" Moore, Washington, and Jewell Franklin Moore, Cartersville; five grandchildren, Richard Henson, Courtney Henson, Coleigh Shirah, Lindsey Moore, and Walker Moore; and two stepgrandchildren, Scott Johnson and Ashley Johnson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wills Memorial Hospital Foundation, 120 Gordon St., Washington; or Phillips Mill Baptist Church Building Fund, 5527 Greensboro Road, Washington.

Hopkins Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
