      Red Ribbon Week at Washington- Wilkes Primary School took place October 22-25. The school theme for this year was "Drugs Destroy Dreams." The activities for the week were focused on the theme, where students are encouraged to think about their dreams for the future and how drugs can get in the way of reaching those dreams.

Seniors can get free legal help from GLSP Nov. 6
      Members of the staff of the Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) will be in Wilkes County Tuesday, November 6, to meet with senior citizens wanting free legal help, on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone who is a senior citizen, 60 years of age or older, and has a civil (non-criminal) legal issue may be able to receive help.

      The annual Optimist Club Friend of Youth Auction and Barbecue will be held Thursday, November 15, at the VFW Post 5899 home on Andrew Drive in Washington. To begin the week, all students, faculty, and staff pledged to be drug free by signing their name on a red paper chain. The chain contained over 400 links and was displayed in the lobby area outside the cafeteria.

      Students take part in a fashion show Friday night, part of a class project by W-WCHS senior Nicollette Fanning. For her project, she learned how to produce a "product" from beginning to end. She chose to research how an event planner organized a charity event for St. Jude Hospital.

      Residents of this trailer were burning trash on a windy day Monday, and set fireto acres of woods near Rayle on Martin Echols Road. Washington and Wilkes County firefighters, along with Department of Forestry personnel and equipment, controlled and put out the fire, which could have easily gotten out of control.

      Jackson Armour, a fifth grade Wilkes County 4-H member, participated in the Gwinnett County Fair Livestock Show with his Chi-Angus heifer, Toni. Jackson placed second in showmanship and Toni placed first in the Junior Chi-Angus Show and second in the open Chi-Angus Show. Jackson then went to the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Ga.
