W-W Elementary School students celebrate annual Red Ribbon Week

Students at Washington-Wilkes Elementary School celebrated Red Ribbon Week October 22-26. To begin the week, all students, faculty, and staff pledged to be drug free by signing their name on a red paper chain. The chain contained over 400 links and was displayed in the lobby area outside the cafeteria.

On Monday, students "Teamed Up Against Drugs" by wearing their favorite sports team jersey or t-shirt. Every student received a Drug Free lollipop compliments of Carolyn Reynolds at Wilkes County Community Partnership.

Tuesday was "Red Rally Day." when students dressed in red from head to toe. Red Ribbon Week pencils were randomly given out to students that displayed the most red.

On Wednesday, students "Joined Together to be Drug Free" by wearing their W-WES t-shirts that were purchased by the Wilkes County Commissioners for the GPEE Bus Tour in September. Thursday, students proudly wore spirit ribbons that said "At W-WES, we love HUGS not DRUGS."
