The planning committee for the 2008 Relay for Life of Washington- Wilkes started this year's activities with an information booth at the Market Days Street Festival Saturday.

"We talked to a steady stream of local people as well as visitors throughout the day," says Cathy Lannae. "It was 8:30 p.m. when we finally packed up our brochures and headed for home."

The Relay for Life booth was staffed by members of the planning committee and offered cancer information as well as data about the 2008 Relay event which is scheduled for May 2-3, 2008, at the Washington-Wilkes Parks and Recreation Track.

The event kickoff party will be held January 22, 2008. Team sign-up is available now. The first fiveRelay teams to sign up will be eligible for a special drawing to take place at the January party.
