Mary Webster installed as new president of W-W Garden Club

Mary Webster Mary Webster Mary Webster was installed as president of the Washington-Wilkes Garden Club at the meeting Thursday, October 11, at the home of Sally and John Kennedy on Shore Line Drive.

Mrs. Webster was installed by Mabel Johnson, outgoing president. Other club officerswere installed in a ceremony in March.

Prior to the installation Mrs. Johnson presided, welcomed members who joined her in reciting the Pledge to the Flag, and offered a devotional.

A business meeting followed and included a discussion of the club becoming a grand-gardeners club.

Announcements included the upcoming Sharon-Raytown Garden Club Flower Show to be held at the old school house in Sharon November 3-4.

Paula Butts gave an overview of the upcoming SPLOST to be voted on November 6.

Members were reminded that all meetings will be the second Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. at the North Wilkes Library.

Following the meeting Mrs. Kennedy served delicious refreshments which all enjoyed while seated in the glass-enclosed sunroom overlooking the lake. A beautiful arrangement of fall flowers was used in decorating. Another display of potted chrysanthemums graced another sitting room.

Attending with Mrs. Kennedy were Mabel Johnson, Linda Burns, Edna Rhodes, Pat Mack, Sara Frances Henderson, Paula Butts, Iris Corbett, Louise Harper, Elaine Boiter, Genevieve Thurmond and Mary Webster.
