All-night vigil set to pray for county's pastorless churches

2007-11-01 / Worship

The Pathway Community Church is praying around the clock for a new pastor this weekend, and they're inviting the community to join them.

The 24-hour prayer vigil will start at the church at noon Saturday and run to noon Sunday, and someone will be there praying all night. Church members are beginning a fast now in preparation for the weekend vigil.

"There are several churches in Wilkes County without pastors right now," said Linda Griggs, "and we're going to be praying for all of them. We encourage anyone to come join us in praying for everyone's needs."

Church members are requesting that others pray with them. "Even if you can't come pray with us at the church, pray anyway," Griggs said. "Our theme scripture is Second Corinthians 7:14: 'If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.'"

Throughout the vigil, music will be played "as an act of worship" and singers and musicians are welcome to share, she said.

The Pathway Community Church is located off Highway 78 Business at Brown Rd. Jim Griggs and Tyler Verdery are the church elders.
