      TO THE EDITOR: We would like to thank "911," the firedepartment and the forestry department for responding to the fireon my property last Thursday. This could have been a very serious situation due to the drought. It is so good to know we have people we can depend on in times of need.

Visit home brings back wonderful memories
      To the Editor : Recently, in "Vox Pop," a man commented that there was nothing to do in Washington. I heard this once before from a resident interviewed on national TV. Now that really helped! How anybody here can make that statement is beyond me with all there is to do. Their problem is, they don't make the effort to take advantage of all we do have.

      TO THE EDITOR: The Eta Omicron Chapter, Beta Sigma Phi, of Washington held a Caclutta-steak dinner and "Playing FORE the Cure" golf tournament on Saturday and Sunday, October 20-21, in memory of a beloved sister, Nancy Callaway Long, who died August 27, 2002, at the age of 42 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Conservation efforts thwarted by overflowing city water tower
      TO THE EDITOR: Water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink. This is what we will soon be saying with this severe drought we're having. Recently, Governor Perdue mandated that each municipality shall conserve water by reducing their consumption by 10 percent. There are many ways in which our city is saving water.
