No place for hatred, we need positive attitudes
TO THE EDITOR:
With all the pending events, especially our city election, I felt compelled to share with you from my devotional. First, I would encourage you to read and re-read the newspaper article from last week titled "Turnout Never so Important."
In recent weeks I have seen and heard many personal comments and suggestions regarding this election. What bothers me the most are the underlying feelings that have come out. We should want what is best for our community, for the children of our community, and the future of Washington. As adults, and mostly Christian adults, we should be able to draw our conclusions not just on personal likes and dislikes but on what will be the best for Washington. We should display positive attitudes and conduct ourselves accordingly - not tearing down other people.
Love is a choice. Either you choose to behave lovingly toward others ... or not: either you act in ways that enhance your relationships ... or not. But make no mistake: genuine love requires effort. Simply put, if you wish to build lasting relationships, you must be willing to do your part.
God has created us for more than mediocre relationships; He created us for far greater things. Building lasting relationships requires compassion, wisdom, empathy, kindness, courtesy, and forgiveness.
Love must be learned again, and again - there is no end to it. Hate needs no instruction.
I am sorry for the hatred I have seen in our community. I am proud of Carlton Norris that he does not display nor share any hatred, despite those that have tried to bring harm to him in recent years and days.
We need positive and loving, caring citizens in our community, all year long! We can disagree - without hatred.
Have a blessed day.
Sisy Murray
