Visit home brings back wonderful memories
To the Editor :
Recently, in "Vox Pop," a man commented that there was nothing to do in Washington. I heard this once before from a resident interviewed on national TV. Now that really helped!
How anybody here can make that statement is beyond me with all there is to do. Their problem is, they don't make the effort to take advantage of all we do have.
We had two concerts with nationally known artists one weekend. Surely you have some family treasure you would like to know the value of? You could have found out at the appraisal event and had great refreshments too.
Have you ever thought about being an actor? Well, why don't you give it a try at the Washington Little Theater? You could at least attend the plays if you don't want to act.
Were you at Market Days on the Square? How about ArtFest? Did you take in the festivals in Rayle or Tignall? How about Mule Day?
Care about history? Try attending meetings of the Historical Foundation, there was a great speaker this past Sunday.
And what about hearing the ghost stories told at the Museum and Toombs House? You missed great fun there.
Surely you like pancakes, so, did you take in the pancake supper the Rotary Club put on?
And these are just the recent opportunities.
Have you ever experienced the great adventure awaiting you at our Historical Museum, Robert Toombs House, or Callaway Plantation? You might get a new understanding and interest in this great, historic town of ours.
And of all the activities and meetings I have attended, none has ever been for just one part of our community and not the other.
There never is anything to do if YOU don't make the effort! As for me, I'm plumb worn out from all the fun I'm having in Washington-Wilkes, and that's just this weekend!
