Iris Garden Club meets Nov. 13, makes plans for 'Night of Lights'
The Iris Garden Club met Tuesday, November 13, at the Church of the Mediator Parish House with Karen Stubbs presiding.
Mrs. Stubbs called the meeting to order. She welcomed members and thanked hostesses, Norma Hopkins, Nancy McAvoy, Oleta McAvoy and Patsy Winn.
The Club Collect was read by Franny Robinson.
Volunteers from the Club will serve as bell ringers for the Salvation Army Christmas drive to be held at Bi-Lo and Ingles on the weekends before Christmas and on the days of the Downtown Candlelight Shopping.
New members, Elizabeth Smith and Carol Daniel, were introduced. Nancy Farris is a new member who visited the Club in October. Laura Toburen introduced guest Rachael Arnold.
It was noted that the Club's annual Christmas Brunch will be December 11 at 10 a.m. at Lafayette Manor. Also noted was that the new edition of the club's cookbook, "Colonial Cooks," is available for purchase.
Mrs. Stubbs announced that at the Azalea District Meeting on October 17, she accepted the 2007-2008 Suzanne Wheeler Bird and/or Butterfly Award" presented to the Iris Garden Club.
The annual "Night of Lights" Christmas decorating contest was discussed with final plans to be announced at a later date.
Following the meeting members assembled and stuffed Christmas bags that will be included in the Angel Tree program sponsored each year by the First United Methodist Church for families in need.
