Taliaferro seniors join locals for Halloween party at center

The Wilkes County Senior Citizens Center had its annual Halloween party with invited guests from the Senior Center of Taliaferro County.

More than 50 senior citizens enjoyed bingo, an old-fashioned gospel sing along, and a special luncheon prepared and served by center staff members.

The highlight of the event was the costume judging. Jennifer Jackson and Jeri Hucke from the Wilkes County Health Department judged all entrants.

First place winner was Mattie Julia Williams who was dressed as "Aunt Jemima. Second place went to Alfreedia Rucker as an Indian Princess; and third place, Hattie Mc- Manus, The Hunchback. Honorable mention went to Marjorie Ervin as Miss Halloween; and Edna Gresham as Frankenstein.

The Wilkes County Senior Center is open to all residents of Wilkes County who are 60 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. and offers a hot meal.
