Post 17 state police wrote 4,285 tickets, gave 4,675 warnings During the past year, troopers based at Georgia State Patrol Post 17 in Washington, which covers the counties of Wilkes, Lincoln, Elbert, Oglethorpe, and Taliaferro, patrolled more than 250,000 miles, worked 286 accidents, and made 6,739 traffic stops, Post spokesman Trooper Brent Marxsen said. In 2006, the 286 accidents in the five-county area resulted in 11 fatalities and 273 injuries. During more than 6,000 traffic stops, troopers made 144 DUI arrests, wrote 4,285 citations and gave 4,675 warnings.
In addition, troopers recovered five stolen vehicles, aided other police agencies 181 times, made 20 felony drug arrests, 38 misdemeanor drug arrests, and 17 other felony arrests.
