Josephine Orr honored at 75th birthday celebration

Josephine Orr
Josephine Marie Wilson Orr was honored on the occasion of her 75th birthday at a celebration Saturday afternoon, December 23, given by her family in the fellowship hall of Sardis Baptist Church in Rayle. Her birthday was December 22.

For the occasion Mrs. Orr, a former resident of Rayle who now resides in Athens, was lovely in a purple two-piece slacks ensemble complemented by a corsage of pink spray roses, fern fronds and gypsophila.

The fellowship hall was beautifully decorated for the celebration. The table was covered in an ivory rose design cloth and this theme was continued in the plates, cups and napkins. Centering the table was an oblong arrangement of pink spray roses, snapdragons and Alstroemeria interspersed with pine needle and fern fronds.

From the table guests enjoyed a cheese display featuring Swiss, cheddar, Colby and pepper jack with red and green grapes, a platter of fresh broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, squash and tomatoes served with dip, chicken salad, pimento cheese, ham and turkey and cream cheese tea sandwiches, green and black olives, shrimp and cocktail sauce, spinach and artichoke dip in a rye bread bowl, cheese wafers, mixed nuts, mints, strawberries and blueberries with cranberry punch.

A focal point of the party was the birthday cake, a full white sheet cake with ivory butter cream frost- ing done in a basket weave design on the sides. Centering the cake were pale silk yellow roses and on each corner of the top and side was a single pale yellow silk rose.

Celebrating the birthday with Mrs. Orr were her children and grandchildren, Keeve Orr of Baton Rouge, La., and son, Jonathan Orr of Athens; Steve and Marie Orr Tyler and children, Andrew and Melissa, of Snellville, and Clay and Kate Orr Messer of Roswell; other relatives, Lizzie Arnold, Wayne and Beatrice Mixon, Sanford and Mary Claire Mixon, and Holly and Rose Simmons of Athens; and Mike and Patti Orr of Hull; and a host of church and community friends and neighbors.
