Kaili Walker will spend year-long training in Phillipines with Avenue Capitol Group

Kaili Walker, Thomson High School's 2003 valedictorian, departed to New York City on Thursday, January 11, for training before flying to Manila, Philippines, to complete a year-long internship with Avenue Capitol Group-Avenue Asia. Kaili is the granddaughter of James Ella Mays of Washington, and the daughter of Bailey and Joann Walker of Thomson.

Avenue Capitol Group is an international company that manages hedge fund investments and provides other financial services. This company, headquartered in New York, has offices in London, Luxembourg, and eight offices throughout Asia.

Kaili is a Master of Business Administration (MBA) student at Florida A&M University's (FAMU) School of Business & Industry in Tallahassee, Florida. The appointment in the Philippines is her third internship. In the summer of 2006, Kaili completed an auditing internship at the corporate headquarters of OfficeMax near Chicago, Illinois. Her first internship, in the summer of 2005, was with Sovereign Enterprises, a locally owned business in Brunswick, Georgia. She has also worked part-time at Cornucopia Tax Services, a financial planning and tax preparation firm in Tallahassee.

Kaili has maintained dean's list and honor roll status since enrolling at FAMU. Currently, she is vice president of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry and member of the White and Gold Honor Society, Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, and National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In addition to being a business student this past semester, Kaili was a math tutor, a writing consultant in the campus Writing and Resource Center, and a graduate assistant in the School of Business.

To receive this latest appointment in Southeast Asia, Kaili was required to submit a resume and participate in three intensive rounds of telephone interviews with company representatives in China and the Philippines.

Upon completing the internship, Kaili will return to FAMU in the spring of 2008 to complete her graduate course work and degree requirements.
