Whitehead gets appointment as committee chair State Sen. Jim Whitehead (REvans) was appointed chairman of the Senate Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee by Lt. Governor Casey Cagle for the 2007- 2008 term of the Georgia General Assembly. The Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee handles all legislation concerning the maintenance of the security and well-being of Georgia's citizens. In addition to serving as chairman, Whitehead was also re-appointed vice chair of Transportation, and as a member of the Economic Development and the Natural Resources and the Environment committees. "I am honored to serve on these committees, and appreciate Lt. Gov. Cagle's confidence in me," Whitehead said. "I am honored to serve the people of my district and again work with my Senate colleagues for the betterment of this great state." On the second day of the 2007 legislative session, Lt. Gov. Cagle announced the committee assignments for all Senate members, and congratulated Sen. Whitehead on his appointment as chairman. "Sen. Whitehead will lead the Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee with honor and distinction. His dedication and hard work for all of Georgia was rewarded today when he was named chairman. I look forward to seeing the results that this committee produces for our state," said Lt. Gov. Cagle.
Sen. Whitehead was officially sworn in as State Senator representing the 24th Senate District on Monday, January 8, the first day of the 2007 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
