A recent report based on factors like income, test scores, and graduation rates states that Georgia children are less likely to succeed than those in 37 other states. What do you think can be done to improve that situation both statewide and in Wilkes County.
"I think that schools should have to report fairly each and every kid that takes the test, and each and every kid that takes the test should be allowed the same opportunity. It shouldn't be based on the school's deciding who gets to take the test." MICHELLE MICKENS Teacher
"I believe that they need to encourage children to stay in school, do things that make it more exciting to stay in school, more and better education." DAWN ROBINSON Pliant Corporation
"More interest and more funding should be directed towards teachers and actual classrooms and upgrading the classrooms and computers and things that lead up to the corporate world where students are eventually going to end up in the next four or five years." CALVIN RUFFIN Store Manager
"Students today are much smarter than they were when I came along. I am amazed at the creativity, etc. I think this comes from the school and the home. The number one thing is for the parents to be involved, not only at home but in the schools. The programs that are implemented to raise test scores, I think are on track, and I go back to the home. Stay on your child to do what the teacher says." OLIVIA JACKSON Callaway Plantation
