Janet Burgess honored with surprise 60th birthday party

Janet Burgess was honored with a surprise early birthday dinner on New Year's Eve in Watkinsville at the home of her daughter and sonin law, Mandy and Brent Marable.

Mrs. Burgess will celebrate her 60th birthday this year in late February.

New Year's Eve made for a festive evening for family and friends to gather and surprise Mrs. Burgess with the early birthday dinner.

The festivities were given by her daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and Brent Marable and Molly Burgess of Watkinsville and Maria and Joel Walker of Lubbock, Tex.

The Marable home was festively decorated with a holiday theme. Christmas trees were scattered throughout the house. The living room held the card-themed tree filled with pictures, cards and letters received through the holidays from family and friends. The dining room held the Georgia Bulldogthemed tree filled with red, black and silver balls and Georgia Bulldog ornaments; and the family room featured a beautiful family tree filled with heirloom ornaments, dried berries and dried hydrangea. The main focal point in the family room was the display of the Nativity scene.

Guests arrived early in preparation for the surprise and while awaiting Mrs. Burgess's arrival, dined on fresh bruschetta and cranberry spritzer. Upon her arrival, guests gathered in the family room with a "surprise" welcome and enjoyed Mrs. Burgess's expressions of surprise as she expressed appreciation to those joining her to celebrate.

A delicious Italian buffet was prepared and served by her family with a special accompanying dish made by close family friend, Nancy Sisson of Washington.

Centering the buffet was a beautiful cutglass vase filled with fresh garnet roses.

Guests were seated and served in the dining room where tables were complete with holiday-themed napkins, fresh bread baskets and olive oil and spices dipping saucers. Tiramisu and mint chocolate cheesecake bars prepared by daughter, Molly Burgess, completed the evening meal.

Mrs. Walker led guests in a toast to her mother and the friendship she has shared with the couples throughout the years.

Joining Mrs. Burgess for the evening were her husband, Martin Burgess; hosts and hostesses for the evening, Mandy and Brent Marable and son Jack Durham, Molly Burgess and Maria and Joel Walker; Ed and Betty Lane of Rutherfordton, N.C.; John and Kathy Richardson of Watkinsville; and Brian Kenney, guest of daughter, Molly Burgess. Guests attending from Washington were Mickey and Nancy Sisson, Bill and Susan Branan, Jim and Randee Barry, and Barry and Judy Thompson. Engaged couple, Ashley Branan and Brad Sheffield, also joined the family for the evening.
