Blackwells honored at dessert and coffee at Callaway home Dec. 29

Captain Matthew Blackwell and his wife, Holly, of Fort Campbell, Ky., were honored at dessert and coffee hosted by his mother and stepfather, Dackie and Turner Callaway, at the Callaway home in Rayle Friday evening, December 29.

The occasion was to welcome Captain Blackwell's return home after serving with the 101st Airborne in Iraq.

The house was beautifully decorated for the holidays. A festive Christmas tree decorated the living room where the couple greeted guests. Christmas greenery, candles, and other holiday touches were used throughout.

Guests were invited into the dining room where the dining table was filled with decadent desserts, candies and fruits. Coffee was served from a side table decorated with a colorful display of Christmas balls.

Several laptops were about the house for guests to view slide presentations of scenes in Iraq.

A host of family and friends joined the family and included Captain Blackwell's father, Lt. Col. (ret.) Gene Blackwell and wife, Karen, of Kernersville, N.C.; his brothers and families, Mark Blackwell of Kernersville, Jeff Blackwell of Athens, David and Theresa Blackwell, Andrew and Brittany, and Teagan Best, of Jefferson; and close friend, Adam Smith of Athens.

Visiting earlier in the afternoon were Katherine Callaway Patterson and daughter, Cally, of Orangeburg, S.C., Edward and Laura Callaway Hart and family, Katherine and Russell, of Columbia, S.C., Russell's guest, Kaitlin Kluge of Cullowhee, N.C., and Gartine Callaway Davis of Warthen.
