Hiawatha Crombie Gatewood Graveside services for Hiawatha Crombie Gatewood, 93, were held Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Sutton Ware Cemetery, Metasville Road, with Rev. James Pritchard officiating. She died January 18. Mrs. Gatewood was a native of Wilkes County and the daughter of the late Watson and Hattie Sutton. She was the widow of William Gatewood and had lived in Chicago for many years before returning to Wilkes County in 1996. She attended the Shiloh Academy in Washington and Paine College in Augusta. Survivors include a step-daughter, Billie Mae Wooldridge of Oakland, California; and a cousin, Pattie Booker. Pallbearers included Andrew Jackson, Booker T. Jackson, Byron Jackson, Milton Turner, Meiko Mayes, Fredrick Kennedy and Martel Davis.
McLendon Memorial Funeral Home of Washington was in charge of arrangements.
