Kiwanis Club presents Academic Jackets to top W-WCHS juniors
Ten students from the Class of 2008 at Washington Wilkes Comprehensive High School received Kiwanis Academic Jackets at the regular meeting of the Washington Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, January 30. Those receiving the special recognition were (l-r, beginning third from left) Josh Cosby, Ashley Kearney, Katie Haughey, Russell Standard, Kim Jenkins, Caleb Saggus, Tyson Gilland, Kelly Roberts, Troy Colvard, and John Lovvorn. Each of the high school juniors has at least 18 credits with an academic average of 90 or higher. Don Bridges (right), W-WCHS counselor, thanked the Kiwanians for their civic contributions and the annual recognition of outstanding students at the school. Upon receiving the jackets, each student told members what their future plans were following graduation. Bob Simmons indicated that the Kiwanis Club plans to award three $1,000 scholarships to the 2008 graduation class. Vice President Bes Moore (left) and President Bill Steed presented the jackets.
