Quick response saves three
More than a dozen Wilkes County first responders were on scene within minutes Saturday when two young Wilkes County men and a Union Point teen were injured in a wreck on Highway 44. Wintesses say their truck went off the highway and hit a culvert, flipping multiple times. The driver, Chris Dyches, 24, was trapped in the truck and required extrication by Wilkes County Rescue and EMTs as passenger Josh Gowan was treated prior to transport. All three were taken by LifeFlight to the Medical College of Georgia. Georgia State Trooper Brent Marxsen said that the truck traveled more than 600 feet in the dirt along the side of the road before hitting a culvert and becoming airborn. Alcohol use was not suspected, he said, but the wreck was still under investigation.
