Thanks to all families who have taken part in giving donations towards our stained glass window project at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. We are looking forward to having them perhaps by spring or soon after. ..The pretty flower arrangement for the worship services Sunday was placed in loving memory of Agnes McAvoy Beard by her daughter Mary and her husband Jason Down. They brought back sweet memories. .. Thanks to all churches of the Georgia Baptist Association who are taking part in a mission project for HEART Ministries, a home for ladies like Penfield is for men with drug and alcohol problems. Just a reminder of the shower at the Mission Center in Washington this Saturday morning, February 3, at 10 a.m. Breakfast will be served. Everyone interested is invited. Delivery of HEART items is set for Monday, February 19. You might would like to follow along in your own car or van. A good time to see for yourself what's going on in the ministry and see the excitement on their faces when we arrive. Last year a number of cars followed each other. Please feel welcome. The home is in Lavonia. ..You know Baptists like to eat. Well, Phillips Mill Baptist Church plans its annual Valentine supper on Valentine's night Wednesday, February 14, at 6:30 p.m. It will be a spaghetti supper. A sign-up sheet has been placed in the vestibule. We need sauce, big bags of salad with two dressings, pre-cut French bread and desserts. Noodles and tea will be provided. Please write family name and how many will attend. You might like to contact Charlotte Waller. It is important to have a head count before hand. Please feel welcome to take part. Don't forget your smile and sense of humor will be a great part of the get-together. ..Sincere sympathy is extended to all families who have lost loved ones recently. I would like to mention the family of Eva Mae Evans Reynolds, 79, of Crawfordville who passed away Friday, January 12, at Wills Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Taliaferro County and the daughter of the late Shelton and Essie Rocker Evans. Her husband, Harry J. Reynolds, grew up in Pennsylvania. Mr. Shelton, her father, grew up at Phillips Mill along with my father, the late Emmett Lyle "Em. L" Johnson, and many of the Rocker family also did. Some in our area also went to school with Mae and brothers, Jack and Bobby, and sister Hazel. She was a sweet lady. Back in December, Eva Mae and I were in Wills Memorial Hospital across the hall from each other. ..Miss Reba Hester of Atlanta, her sister, Nell (Mrs. Grady) Bowers, and her daughter Sherrie of Danburg visited friends, Dan and Mildred Nunn McAvoy Sunday afternoon. Nephew Joe Hardy and his sweet wife Debbie visited Sunday evening. Daughter Dorothy Ann Saxon spent a night during the week. ..Genelle Lunceford (Mrs. Oliver) Gill of Phillips Mill has recently gone to Harper's Personal Care Home on Bootlegger Lane in Washington to make her home. Her husband Oliver who has been in poor health, is able to take care of himself at home. Genelle was also happy to have Reba Hester, Nell Bowers, and Sherrie to visit her at Harper's Saturday afternoon. A lot of happy memories were shared about growing up together at Phillips Mill Baptist Church. ..Friends Sonny and Helen Callaway of Monroe visited Morrison and Priscilla Maxwell during the week. Son Lee Nash Maxwell and friend Jason spent Saturday with them and did some more work. The children continue to see about making things easier for their elderly parents. Ha! It is greatly appreciated. Please continue to remember us in your prayers that we won't become a real burden to anyone. God is so good.
