Wilkes Relay for Life team captains invited to training course Feb. 20

The American Cancer Society has invited all Relay for Life team captains (returning captains, new captains and potential captains) to participate in the 2007 Team Captain University. The University, entitled "Expedition Relay: Preparing You for the Quest," is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Augusta Technical College Thomson/McDuffie campus.

"The Team Captain University is a great way for participants to learn more about successful Relay For Life practices and to connect with team captains from other communities," said Relay coordinator Summer Garrison. "There will be food, games, learning and fun. Participation in the Relay for Life University is a great opportunity to give back to your community and to receive some excellent tips in volunteer training. And it's free of charge to those working with Relay for Life."

If you would like to participate, call the local American Cancer Society office toll-free at 866-227- 0904 to reserve a space. "Take advantage of this great opportunity to strengthen your involvement with Relay for Life - Washington Wilkes," Garrison said.

Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature activity. Its purpose is to seek funds to help fight cancer and to bring about greater awareness of the dis- ease. Relays were held in more than 3,000 communities last year raising more than $212 million and drawing two million participants. The RFL-Washington-Wilkes will be held May 4-5, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m.
