Many parents attend open house; book fair will continue through Fri.
By W-WMS SEVENTH AND EIGHTH GRADERS

The weather provided the students and faculty of W-WMS an extra day off on Thursday, February 1; however, the cold weather has not put a freeze on learning. On Monday, February 5, parents were invited to an open house at the middle school in order to pick up their child's progress report and talk to the teachers. The teachers were available until 6 p.m. to talk to the many parents that showed up.

The student council penny drive for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is going well. The students are being very generous and the competition between the homerooms has helped the school raise about $2,200 so far.

We would like to extend congratulations to the middle school spelling bee winners. They are: sixth grade - Brandon Freeman and Dominique Jenkins; seventh grade - Michael Pharr and Laura Heard; eighth grade - Tavian Binns, DuBois Hines, and Rob Lovvorn. Tavian also placed third in the system spelling bee.

Currently, there is a book fair going on at the school. This book fair will end on Friday, February 9. Other important dates to keep in mind are: February 15 - middle school dance; February 16 - inservice day; and February 19 - Presidents Day holiday.
Spelling bee winners at W-WMS included (front row, l-r) Rob Lovvorn, Michael Pharr, Dominique Jenkins, (back) Laura Heard, Duboise Hines, Brandon Freeman, and Tavian Binns.
