Seibert tells Kiwanis of 'Church and State'
Kiwanian Rich Seibert, a retired USAF LT COL and Delta Airlines pilot, was the guest speaker at the regular meeting of the Kiwanis Club on Tuesday, February 6. Seibert's program was titled "Church and State." He discussed his Air Force foreign travel experiences in Turkey, Pakistan, and Iran, noting the differences between our customs and theirs - particularly in the area of crime rates and punishment. He also outlined church and state separation spelled out in the United States Constitution and listed a number of Supreme Court cases that deal with church and state separation issues. Seibert voiced a concern for the country, saying that the United States leads the world in number of persons in prison; divorce rate percentage; teenage suicide rate; teenage pregnancy rate; and that the U.S. is in the bottom five of literacy of the developed countries worldwide.
