Children's illustrator visits W-WES
Children's illustrator and former teacher, Pam Alexander, gave a presentation to all Washington-Wilkes Elementary School students on January 26 in the school gym. She is the illustrator for a series of books about Yumion, a walking, talking, Vidalia onion who is called the Onion Ambassador. Through these books, Alexander, along with author Rhonda Frost Petty, teaches students about the geography and history of Georgia. The book titles are The Onion Ambassador, Yumion Goes to the City, Yumion's Mountain Holiday, and Snails, Pails and Alligator Tales.
Her new book series features a giant tree frog named Jeremiah who gets zapped back in time to help kids learn about Georgia history.
Above, Alexander is shown with some W-WES fifth grade students during her recent visit to the school. They are (front row, l-r) Melik Young, Jacquavian Long, Jalen Turner, (middle) Mikelia Seals, Alexander, Lori Snellings, (back) Kristen Freeman, Ezequiel Perez, Reyna Smith, and Madison Hall.
