Thanks to all churches of the Georgia Baptist Association who have taken part in collecting useful items for HEART Ministries and were in attendance Saturday morning, February 3, at the Mission Center for the shower for HEART and breakfast together. It was an honor to have not only our faithful Director of Missions, Rev. James Bland, and his wife Judith, but also our moderator of the Association, Dr. Norman Waldrip, and his wife Martha, and Dr. Leonard Dupree, pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and his wife Jackie. ..Churches of the Georgia Baptist Association would like to extend sincere sympathy to the family of Rev. Jack Reynolds of Washington who passed away Wednesday, January 31. Funeral services were held Friday, February 2, at Abilene Baptist Church in Augusta. Burial was in Prattville, Ala., Saturday. Rev. Reynolds served the Georgia Baptist Association as Director of Missions from 1995 to 1997. His wife Carolyn has meant much to Wilkes County, working with Family Connection. ..Thanks to Rev. Sherman "Skip" Padgett, pastor of Robinson Baptist Church, for filling in Sunday, February 4, at Phillips Mill Baptist Church in the absence of the pastor, Rev. Bob Rayner. ..Sincere sympathy to the family and friends of J.H. Rice, 79, son of the late R.L. and Addie Mae Blackmon Rice, and grandson of the late Henry Thomas Rice and Mittie Rice Rice, a first cousin of Henrietta Rice (Mrs. Olin) Lunceford of Phillips Mill Baptist Church and Martha Beth Rice (Mrs. Bobby) Flanigan of Hephzibah Baptist Church in Lincoln County. I understand he spent many years living in California and when his health began to fail his sister Peggy, who lives in Grovetown, went and got him and was taking care of J.H. when he died Friday, January 26. He was buried in Washington Monday, January 29, along with relatives at Resthaven Cemetery. Other family members still living are his sisters, Mary Frances and Rhetta, and their brother, Robert, who lives in Arizona. ..Henry McAvoy visited his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dan McAvoy, last week. They appreciate his and others for their thoughtfulness. ..Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Edward Eugene Corry Jr., age 75, of Union Point who passed away Friday, January 26, at Morgan Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late Edward Eugene Corry and Clara Lou Nash Corry. Ed was born February 1,1931, in Philomath. His Nash grandparents were the late Walter and Sallie Lou Beazley Nash. He graduated from Union Point High School and Piedmont College where he majored in biology and physical education. He received his masters and specialists degrees in education leadership from the University of Georgia. Serving in the United States Army, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He served in the Greene Coutny school system for over three decades. He spent his last eight years of his career as superintendent of Greene County Schools, retiring in 1992. He was a loyal member of the First Presbyterian Church in Union Point where he served as an elder and in many other capacities. He was a member of the Greene County Rotary Club, Union Point Lions Club, Greene County Library Board, Greene County and Lake Oconnee Development Authority and the American Legion. Mr. Corry will be well-remembered for dedication to education and his love for children. He is survived by his wife, Jane Sorrow Corry, of Union Point; two sons, Edward E. Corry III, and his wife Debbie and their children, Lindsey and Lauren of Hobe Sound, Fla., and Samuel F. Corry of Atlanta; a brother, Douglas Corry of Adairsville. Among Nash first cousins are Lawrence Nash of Philomath, son of Daisy Huff Nash, who celebrated her 100th birthday last April 30, and may get to have another one soon, and the late Walter Frank Nash of Philomath; Billy and Florence Nash (Mrs. Ernest) Moon both of Greensboro. Their parents were the late William Thomas "Bill Tom" Nash and Ardelle Armour Nash. Both grew up at Carters Grove Baptist Church. There are some in our area who well remember Mr. Corry's late grandfather, Walter Nash, who was a brother to my (Priscilla) grandmother, Mary Lou "Mamie" Nash Sherrer, operating a store across the road from Carters Grove Baptist Church and his grandmother, Sallie Lou Beazley Nash, was a sister to the late Claude Beazley who was the father-in-law of Grace Mathis Beazley of Carters Grove and a sister to the late Leila Beazley Lunceford, mother of Genelle Lunceford (Mrs. Oliver) Gill of Phillips Mill, to name a few.
