The weather is the subject of conversation these days. My! The wind has been howling and the temperature going below freezing. The sleet was interesting Thursday and J.W. and I just had to go out in it to Poss Umm Cafe and get us some breakfast. After the school children got up and got dressed, school was called off after many had already gotten there. It seemed strange to see the buses coming home so early. The children were excited though. I heard that a few wrecks occurred, but I didn't hear of anything real bad. ..Our hearts go out to the family of Loyd Mathews (Douglas Mathews' father) who died unexpectedly Thursday morning. He was a good man and had many friends who will mourn his passing. Many from our community attended visitation at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Crawford Saturday evening and the funeral service at Burt's United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Mathews, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Mathews, Mr. and Mrs. John Owen and children have our deepest heartfelt sympathy. Other relatives in our community are his niece, Debra Armour, and husband, Lyn and family. ..Continuing prayers are for Pete Hardy, Pete Poss, Gary Rogers, Annie Blanche Vaughn, Thelma Favor, Richard Burkett, Kathryn Padgett, Stephanie Chapman, Mike Webb, Ellie Frey, Beth Thaxton, Betsy Wynne, Johnny Winfrey, Mrs. Johnny Winfrey, Mario's Baby, Thomas Wheatley, Tommy Wheatley, Marshall Sherrer, Mablean Sherrer, Bill Remsen, Leonard Fain, Ralph Smith, Dorothy Callaway, Roberta Roper, Thomas Bunch, Carla Thaxton, James Bowen, Becky Waters, and Mildred Berryman. ..Pete Hardy is very sick in the University Hospital in Augusta as I write this. Please keep him in your prayers. ..Johnny Winfrey is in Athens Regional Medical Center at this writing. Our prayers are for a quick and complete recovery. ..Richard Burkett is still in MCG but may get to come home this week if things go well Monday. Our prayers are for a quick and complete recovery. ..Our hearts were saddened as we learned of the death of Mrs. Ruth Hopkins. She was a sweet lady and will be missed by her family and many friends. ..Birthday wishes go out to Alyssa Stewart who celebrated a birthday this past week. She was honored at a birthday dinner at the home of her parents, Tim and Gail Stewart, Sunday. Joining Alyssa and her parents were Paul and Hannah Wright and Ava, and Johnny and Kathryn Shedd. Lyn Shedd visited in the afternoon. ..Tucker and Brenda Vaughn spent the weekend with Mrs. Annie Blanche Vaughn. Mike and Tina Boatwright and Cody visited her last weekend. ..Spending the day Sunday with Buck and Linda Echols were Greg and Angela Armour, Samantha, Cody, and Hunter, Taylor Echols, Scott and Sissy Smith, T.J. and Abby, Richard and Lou Heard, Mattie and Hank. ..Roy Bowen celebrated his fifteenth birthday Friday, January 19, with his family, T.J. and Karen, Trey and Sarah, by going to Elberton to eat at Sonics. A family party was also given for him at his home with T.J. and Karen, Trey and Sarah, on Saturday, January 20. .. Betty Berry, Donnie and Kris Berry, went to visitation for the family of Loyd Mathews at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Crawford Saturday evening. ..Bonnie Boatwright attended the funeral service for Loyd Mathews Sunday afternoon at Burt's United Methodist Church. ..Susan Amason spent the weekend at home with her brother, Billy Amason. ..Bonnie Boatwright joined James and Kathleen Canup for a trip to Elberton Tuesday afternoon to play bingo at Wendy's. ..Barry and Dana Echols were here visiting at the homeplace Sunday. J.W. Boatwright visited with them. ..Bonnie Boatwright visited Kay Berry and Trey, and Kaitlyn and Bryson Porter who were visiting Saturday afternoon. ..Rev. Danny Holdredge brought a wonderful message at Sardis Baptist Church Sunday. Pam Hall was pianist with Monica Gunter leading some good old time hymns. Children's Church was held by Joyce Fry. Accompanying Rev. Holdredge to Suinday School and church were his wife Kathy and their children. ..Family night with a fellowship meal and mission meetings will be held Sunday night, February 11, at 6 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church. .. Peggy Echols joined Nancy Chapman of Crawfordville, Gail Swann of Comer, and Carolyn Godbee of Woodville, on a trip to Macon for the weekend to a Postmasters convention. ..Sudie Kennedy enjoyed visiting Barbara Bradley one day during the week. ..Wes Tanner of Washington spent Friday night and Saturday with Avery Hall. ..Shirley Chafin and Sheila Arnold recently visited Ralph Smith in the hospital in Athens. Mr. Ralph is a resident of the Silver Leaf Nursing Home in Athens where he has returned. ..Gail Stewart and Kathryn Shedd attended the HEART Ministries shower and breakfast at the Georgia Baptist Association Mission Center Saturday morning. ..Billy and Doris Walker joined other family members in Athens at the home of Clifton and Janet Lewis, Ashton and Heyden for a wonderful get-together and dinner Saturday. Mike and Debra Sherrer, Whitney and her friend Reese, Lindsey and her friend, Jones, Sidney and Cheryl Walker, Alex and Taylor also joined the rest of the family at the gathering. ..Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family of Charles Bradford who passed away this past week. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. ..Sympathy also goes out to the family of Ann Hunter who passed away during the week. She was a sweet lady who will be greatly missed. ..Trey Bowen was seven years old Monday, February 5. A party is planned for later due to illness in the family. ..Troy and Shirley Chafin had the usual crowd of family and friends to eat with them Sunday night. ..George and Ann Wideman's visitors have been Gene Winfrey and James, David and Mathew Wideman. Ann visited Mrs. Sandy Winfrey and Mrs. Betty Winfrey. She also visited Mrs. Reba Hester in Wills Memorial Hospital. ..Bonnie Boatwright enjoys chatting with all you folks who are so nice to give me your news every week.
