Blessed because we know her The rest of the world is finally catching on. We knew Hillary Lindsey was a big deal the very first time we heard her sing. We knew it every time she sang at the Washington First United Methodist Church and every time she sang at the Washington Little Theater. We knew it when she entertained at Wilkes County 4-H functions and while she was performing with "Clovers and Company." We knew it when she won the Kiwanis Talent Showcase and went on to win the state Showcase. And we still knew it when she left her little hometown to seek her fortune in the music business. We weren't surprised when her song "Blessed" took Martina McBride to No. 1 on the country music charts and we still weren't surprised when "This One's for the Girls" was another hit for McBride. (And what a nice touch for Hillary and Nannie to be in the video!) We weren't even surprised when "Jesus Take the Wheel" became the break-out song that propelled American Idol Carrie Underwood to superstardom. We knew it all along. But that doesn't make us special. It makes us the ones who are "Blessed" - for having seen such a rare talent grow up before our eyes; for having witnessed Hillary's development of her gift from God; for taking inspiration from the songs she writes. Hillary is the first person from Washington, Georgia, ever to win a Grammy - the music industry's highest honor. That's a big deal. She represents her hometown with grace and pride and still considers Washington, in many ways, home - that's a really big deal.
We're proud of you, Hillary. And we're glad everybody else finally figured it out.
